Collection drop off times are 9:00am to 2:00pm at both the permanent facility and during designated mobile events.
What you CAN bring per trip:
- Adhesives
- Aerosols
- Automotive Fluids
- Cleaning Products
- Compact Fluorescent Bulbs - up to 10
- HID bulbs - up to 3, additional: $2.50/bulb
- Fluorescent Tubes (all sizes including 8ft) - up to 10
- Household Batteries
- Liquid Paint (dried paint can be thrown away. Please remove lid when doing so). Up to 15 gallons by container size, additional: $5/gallon by container size
- Solvents
- Insecticides
- Pharmaceuticals (removed from container, packaged in plastic bag)
- Propane Tanks (1qt or smaller) - limit of 3, additonal: $5/tank or call Sequoia Gas
- Medical Sharps (packaged in pre-purchased red biohazard containers)
- Used & Contaminated Oil
- Auto Batteries
- Light Ballasts
- Products labeled: Caution, Warning, Danger, Poison, or Flammable
Do NOT bring:
- Explosives
- Radioactive Materials
- Biological Hazards (excluding medication & medical sharps)
- Ammunition
- Propane tanks larger than 1 qt
- More than the per item material limit
Limits & Fees:
- Limit of 15-gallon (by container size) or 125 lbs per trip (Transportation law prohibits you from transporting more than 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste). 5 gallons is measured by the size of the container and not by the liquid amount. Fees apply to this measurement as well. Small amounts of paint can be combined and condensed into a single container, no larger than 5 gallons in size.

Fee for Households: $5.00 for up to 15 gallons or 125 lbs (combined total) per residential trip*
* Additional fees apply for excess amounts. City of Fortuna residents pay full cost per item (typically $5/gallon, $7/lb)
